Oncidium varicosum II

Lampworked soft glass sculpture vacuum encased in optical crystal. Shaped via traditional glassblowing methods, hand ground and polished. Based on lithographs of prize-winning orchids from the Royal Botanical Society in London during the British orchid craze in the 19th century this is one of a series of pieces I have made in memory of my grandmother who was a breeder of orchids and left me with a love of flowers, and a number of books of reproduced lithographs.
