Terms & Conditions

Models must be of scientifically recognized species. No fantasy or alien lifeforms, please. They must be rendered as accurately as possible, but artistic presentation and creative contexts are encouraged.

Every entry must bear both the Latin and the common name of the species portrayed, the name of the artist, and the techniques(s) involved in the making.

Every entry must be accompanied by a scientific illustration or photograph of the organism being represented. Please see the submission guidelines for further details.

Every model must be composed primarily of glass (50% or more) although other materials may be used as necessary.

Models may not exceed 30" in any dimension. No exceptions.

Entries are limited to only one model per artist or collaborative team.

Entries may have both zoological and botanical elements in them. Models will be judged strictly on their accuracy, aesthetic beauty, presentation, and originality.

The "open" part of the show will be online only using images supplied by the participating artist. The online exhibition will begin by January 1, 2016, and last indefinitely.

The "juried" part of the show will be selected from the "open" show entries. The jurying will happen in December, 2015 and the notifications of selections will be sent out by January 1, 2016. The window for delivering juried work to the Pittsburgh Glass Center will be January 10 - 20, 2016.

The "juried" show will be selected by Heather McElwee, Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Glass Center, Kait Rhoads, artist from Seattle, WA, Amber Cowan, artist from Phildelphia, PA, David Fancis, curator for the Tacoma Museum of Art, and Robert Mickelsen, artist from Mims, FL.

Every juried entry must be delivered to the Pittsburgh Glass Center no later than January 20, 2016, either in person or by shipping company, in a safe, secure container that can be used after the event for transport. Transportion to the Pittsburgh Glass Center for juried entries will be the sole responsibility of the artist. "Lifeforms" will pay for return shipping up to $100. The artist will be responsible for any shipping costs beyond $100. "Lifeforms" will not be responsible for damage due to insufficient packaging.

Artists are reminded of the 30" size limit. Entries that exceed this limit will not be accepted or shown.

Works may be offered for sale. The Pittsburgh Glass Center will handle transactions and payment to the participating artists unless other prior arrangments are made.

The administrators of Lifeforms may reject or remove any entries that are deemed inappropriate, offensive, or that break the rules, without notice.

These rules may be revised at any time by the "Lifeforms" planners.
