Nymphaea

Nymphaea, Botany
Nymphaea
The hardy water lily botanical name is Nymphaea, named after nymphs, the beautiful female Greek mythological creatures. Nymphs were known to seduce young gorgeous men into tranquil pools of water and drown them in lust and passion.
Hardy Nymphaea are an aquatic perennial with rounded floating leaves and flowers on or just above the water, with numerous narrow petals and conspicuous stamens.
The bud and leaves can be fried and eaten like a vegetable. The rhizome can be used like a potato or pounded into flour.
I have displayed flower and leaves suspended within a wooden box. Stained glass is supporting the flower and leaves as water would. The rhizome is also supported by stained glass so you may look at the root system. The display comes apart so it is easy to travel. Made with borosilicate glass tubing, painted quartz wool, wood and paper. Thanks, This was fun
