"Nepenthes Bicalcarata" is a carnivorous plant species endemic to Borneo. It has evolved elaborate trapping mechanisms at the end of its leaf tips which have been documented to trap, kill, and digest insects, birds, and even small mammals. Nepenthes has developed this method of capturing its sustenance so that it may thrive in the forrest floor detritus and other nutrient depleted environments.

Bio
Evan Kolker is a sculptor working primarily in glass and metals, originally from Baltimore MD, and currently based in Oakland, CA. Working with glass for more than 20 years, the majority of his artworks are created using glassblowing and hot sculpting techniques, while his knowledge of sculpting metal contributes to his detailed and life-like sculptures. He is best known for his sculptural series depicting various species of carnivorous plant. These pieces take a great deal of time to create, ranging from a few hours to blow and sculpt each glass element, and dozens of hours to forge and fabricate the metal. Influenced early on in his career by the legendary German lamp-working team, father and son Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka, Evan is fascinated with creating forms inspired by nature utilizing various glass sculpting techniques. Evan's sculptures have been exhibited across the US and abroad in galleries and museums, including Montague Gallery, Habatat Galleries, SOFA chicago, Hive Contemporary, National Liberty Museum, Wesleyan University, Petaluma Arts Center, 111 Minna Gallery, Public Glass, and Pittsburgh Glass Center.
