Bio
Rex Brown is currently retired. Most recently, he was the Executive Director for Glass Axis in Columbus Ohio. Mr. Brown graduated from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio with an MBA and has a business background in leadership, strategic planning, finance and accounting, customer service, and information technology.

Rex’s first career was a Finance and Accounting Officer for the U.S. Army. He has 23 years of experience in military accounting, operations research, and systems analysis and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Over the course of his career, he filled positions that included all aspects of this specialty. Highlights of his career include two successful battalion commands, programming and deploying an accounts payable program that was eventually adopted by the Department of Defense, and the development of numerous information technology innovations. These projects included methods to automate and accelerate inputs to pay soldiers who were deploying to combat zones; knowledge based systems to explain complex pay entitlements to soldiers on websites; and computer based training intended to be used world-wide.

His second career was working with Information Technology and Medicare claims processing. He performed a myriad of tasks related to providing improved customer service to Medicare providers. In this role, he also managed the education and outreach programs including presenting and teaching to the public, providers, and internal staff.

After leaving the Medicare world, Rex returned to the art community as the Executive Director of a non-profit glass studio. He performed many tasks related to his art career. He coordinated numerous exhibitions including curating, occasionally acting as juror, and when appropriate including his own glass art. Mr. Brown planned special events including addressing public audiences to present the Glass Axis story. He also managed the education and outreach programs, including presenting and teaching in a variety of fused glass and stained glass workshops. In this role, he created a positive relationship with the community through media relations, advertising efforts, web presence, social media, and documented activities and events for publications and grant purposes.

A life-long artist, Rex continues to learn new mediums and techniques and ways to incorporate these into new art projects. His art is on display throughout the U.S. and in China, and he has participated in a variety of gallery exhibits in the Columbus, Ohio area.
