Metaphorical Me

Passerina Ciris- Painted Bunting- Painted buntings are striking in their coloration, but this is about the potential of others to color us in to suit their own needs. This spare representation of 'mother' is a metaphorical element of both essential structure and captivity. My cage series references the struggle to assert my own needs and desires while raising teenagers, meeting the demands of my own parents, and living an unconventional life. These cages have no ability to incarcerate, but contrast the ideas of captivity and refuge; they are spaces for solitary confinement and sympathetic equanimity.
